Wedding Dream Meaning
A Jungian perspective on the wedding in dreams: integration.
A wedding is the symbol of 'Integration,' representing the successful 'Sacred Marriage' (Hieros Gamos) of two previously separate or conflicting parts of the self. it is the 'Union of Opposites' (King and Queen, Sun and Moon) and the state of 'Ecstatic Wholeness' where a new, unified identity is born. To dream of a wedding is to experience your own 'soul-joining'.
In dreams, your own wedding signifies a state of high 'internal harmony' and a successful 'commitment' to a new and higher level of self-integration. A wedding where you are a 'guest' points toward yours 'observation' of a potential union that is not yet fully yours. A 'disrupted' or frightening wedding indicates a state where your 'integration' is being 'thwarted' by a shadow complex or by a lack of 'readiness' for the commitment.
For example
If you dream of a wedding in a 'forest,' it represents yours 'integration' as something that is currently 'natural,' 'wild,' and is being'guaranteed' by yours own deepest instincts. If the 'bride' or 'groom' is a stranger, your psyche is telling you that you are currently 'marrying' a previously 'unknown' or 'unconscious' part of yourself that holds a massive potential for yours future growth.
Questions to ask about this dream
The meaning lives in your dream, not the dictionary. Before reaching for an interpretation, look at what actually happened:
- Whose wedding was it: yours, someone you know, strangers?
- How did you feel about the union: joy, dread, reluctance, indifference?
- Did the ceremony complete, or was it interrupted?
- What two things in your life might be trying to join, or resisting it?
- Who was missing from the wedding?
What does this symbol mean in your dreams?
A page like this can only read the wedding in isolation. In a real journal it arrives somewhere: a particular night, certain people, a mood, often other dreams it has visited before. That history is where interpretation starts meaning something.
