Pregnancy in a dream is a classic symbol of psychological incubation and the gestation of the new. It indicates that a new creative project, a fresh attitude toward life, or a completely new dimension of the Self is currently developing in the dark, fertile 'womb' of the unconscious. This potential is not yet ready to be born into the conscious world, but its presence is deeply felt, often bringing a sense of anticipation, physical heaviness, or profound meaning to the dream.
This theme requires patience and care. The developing 'child' represents the dreamer's future potential. If the pregnancy is fraught with fear or complications, it suggests that the ego is anxious about the responsibilities of this new growth or fears that the new aspect of the self will be rejected by the waking world. It can also point to a 'puer aeternus' shadow, where the dreamer prefers the limitless potential of 'being pregnant' with an idea over the messy, limited reality of actually 'giving birth' and executing it.
