War Dream Meaning
A Jungian perspective on war in dreams: conflict.
War is the symbol of 'Conflict,' representing a 'Massive Struggle' between different 'polarized' parts of the psyche or between the ego and a powerful 'shadow' collective. it is the 'Field of Battle' where the soul's tensions are being 'acted out' in a state of high 'destruction' and 'fury.' To dream of war is to face yours own 'internal division'.
In dreams, being a 'soldier' in a war signifies a state where you are 'taking a side' and are currently 'fighting' for yours own (or a collective's) values. A war that is 'coming' points toward a state of high 'tension' and an 'imminent' crisis that will 'shake' your entire life. 'Peace' breaking out in a war indicates a successful 'negotiation' and 'integration' of the conflicting parts.
For example
If you dream of a war that is being fought with 'light,' it represents yours 'conflict' as something that is currently 'spiritual' and is 'purifying' your internal world through the 'clash' of high-level ideas. If you are 'hiding' from the war, your psyche is warning you that you are currently 'avoiding' a necessary 'struggle' for your own 'integrity' and you need to find the 'courage' to 'stand' for your truth.
Questions to ask about this dream
The meaning lives in your dream, not the dictionary. Before reaching for an interpretation, look at what actually happened:
- Were you fighting, fleeing, or watching the war from a distance?
- Who or what were the two sides?
- Did you know what the war was over?
- Is there a conflict in your waking life, or between two parts of yourself, that has escalated?
- Was there any prospect of peace in the dream?
What does this symbol mean in your dreams?
A page like this can only read war in isolation. In a real journal it arrives somewhere: a particular night, certain people, a mood, often other dreams it has visited before. That history is where interpretation starts meaning something.
