Teeth Dream Meaning

A Jungian perspective on teeth in dreams: aggression or aging.

A surrealist painted emblem of the dream symbol Teeth.

Teeth are symbols of both aggression (the ability to bite and defend) and the capacity for internalizing and 'digesting' experiences. In many cultures, they also relate to vitality and potency. Dreams about teeth falling out are among the most common and are often related to a fear of losing power, influence, or youth, or a general feeling of helplessness in the face of aging.

In a Jungian sense, losing teeth can signify a 'loss of face' or a failure of the persona. It suggests that you are finding it difficult to 'bite into' a current life problem or that you lack the necessary tools to process a new situation. Conversely, growing new, strong teeth indicates a surge in personal power and a new capacity to handle life's challenges with vigor.

For example

If you dream of your teeth crumbling into sand as you speak, it suggests you feel your current words or social influence is weak and ineffective. If you dream of having the sharp teeth of a predator, it signifies that a repressed aggressive instinct is rising to the surface and you are ready to defend your boundaries with force if necessary.

What does this symbol mean in your dreams?

A page like this can only read teeth in isolation. In a real journal it arrives somewhere: a particular night, certain people, a mood, often other dreams it has visited before. That history is where interpretation starts meaning something.
