Vomiting Dream Meaning

A Jungian perspective on vomiting in dreams: violent psychic rejection.

A surrealist painted emblem of the dream symbol Vomiting.

Vomiting symbolizes the psyche's violent, necessary rejection of a 'toxic' idea, a destructive relationship, or an incompatible belief that the ego tried, but failed, to digest. It is a psychological purge.

This dream indicates that the dreamer has 'swallowed' something in waking life (a lie, a compromise, an insult) that is profoundly sickening to their true nature. The unconscious refuses to integrate it and forces its expulsion.

Integration involves trusting this visceral rejection. The psychological task is to identify the 'toxin' in waking life and consciously remove it. The dreamer must assert their boundaries and refuse to internalize situations or beliefs that are poisonous to their psychological well-being.

Questions to ask about this dream

The meaning lives in your dream, not the dictionary. Before reaching for an interpretation, look at what actually happened:

What does this symbol mean in your dreams?

A page like this can only read vomiting in isolation. In a real journal it arrives somewhere: a particular night, certain people, a mood, often other dreams it has visited before. That history is where interpretation starts meaning something.
